About
Sun Valley Dusting Co.
Sun Valley Dusting is a family owned and operated business that works hard to provide the best possible aerial application services and build long-lasting relationships with their clients.
In the Beginning
Sun Valley Dusting Company was founded in the late 1930’s by Ray Shifflet as Valley Star Dusters in Harlingen, Texas near the area where Valco exists today. In 1942 the company became Sun Valley Dusting Company and moved to the area where Tony Butler Golf Course is now located. Ken Medders, a pilot recently released from service in the U.S. Army Air Corps Ferry Command who was flying for Sun Valley Dusting took over the company and moved it to the San Benito Municipal Airport in 1947.
During the winter of 1976-77, Mr. Medders sold the company to Pat Kornegay, a San Benito native who was flying ag-planes on Cotton, Rice, and other crops in Texas and Nicaragua.
Today
The company is operated by the Kornegay family to this day and currently operates four late model, turbine powered Air Tractor airplanes out of four locations in the Rio Grande Valley.
Pat, Clyde, and Austin Kornegay operate the company with Austin and Clyde flying full time and Pat, who retired from full time ag-flying after 48 years in 2021 helping with management duties. Today Sun Valley Dusting Co. is the go-to company in the Rio Grande Valley for reliable and effective aerial application services.
